It’s no secret Brad Pitt has an affinity for architecture and design—and he’s only continued to grow his real estate portfolio. His latest addition? A $40 million cliffside bachelor pad in Carmel, California, the town where Clint Eastwood was once mayor.
The historic, Craftsman-style home was designed by architect Charles Sumner Greene—who pioneered the California bungalow style with his brother Henry Mather Greene—for author D.L. James around 1918. Known as Seaward (also often called the D.L. James House), the sandstone and granite home sits on a bluff in the Carmel Highlands that overlooks the water, according to The Gamble House, an organization dedicated to the architect’s work. The walls were made to look as though they are growing out of the cliffside.
Local agents told The Wall Street Journal that the sale is one of the priciest to ever close in the Carmel area. Before Brad bought it, the iconic home apparently sat empty for years. “It’s not that big, and it’s awfully private,” photographer Alexander Vertikoff, who shot the home in 1997, told The Daily Mail. “They just don’t make land like that anymore.”
Factor in Brad’s press tour for his latest film Bullet Train along with how he’s reportedly back on the causal dating scene, and it’s safe to say the Hollywood heartthrob has been quite the busy guy!
